Literacy-

Traditional literacy and book reading have deteriorated in our country. Many people are asking, at best, their electronic devices to think for them. We are becoming an unlearned and unrecognizable society. In a country filled with vast resources for knowledge in the forms of literary tools and resources, we allow pundits and paid actors to dictate our opinions for us.

Instead of libraries being filled with people, we see stadiums filled with shrieks and libraries turning to perversion. Why is this, you may ask? Because we have become a society that chases riches and money and perverse lucre rather than pursues knowledge, faith, morality, and true freedom. We have traded intellectual pursuits for a culture of mediocrity. When your daily education intake comes from memes and social media, and you call yourself an adult, maybe regardless of your monetary value, you should judge your depth of soul instead. While life might be bland without happiness, it is also depressing without actual depth.

We used to be communities that could communicate. We now have degrees at college that teach people how to communicate without leaving their basements. While it may be proper to abstain from the world and its illicit activities, those seeking to impart a better world must educate others on reflecting a sense of honesty, integrity, and faithfulness. So, before you judge those who may have difficulties, remember the anti-intellectual and harmful conditions in which the world around them has taught them to behave.

When a society mocks those who read and articulate inspiring inventions and prosperity, it becomes as such. That is the world we live in, where governments and the elite dictate thought while we act the rube and disenfranchise ourselves. How can we expect colleges to teach real intellectualism when we only find it in channels, buttons, and flashing lights? We are like raccoons looking for shiny wrappers, not content to have just one, but instead, we must hoard our keep.

We are told to trust and obey the pundits rather than to seek, speak, and be informed, as those who have caused significant changes to their world have. Long monologues of propaganda and ill-informed anti-intellectual statements now dominate the public discourse. Rants of my will be done or get out, our what I want should be done, rather than the truth of what is faithful and just. We are not practiced in using logical reasoning, and it is apparent. If actual logic were used, the most reasonable explanation for discourse would be sought. But what is reasonable in a secular society based on these concepts? Whatever feels good now. It is an unyielding, unchecked flow into a compassionless state of no empathy.

We look no further as we wonder why the world suffers so much. We are a society without morals, logic, thought, and the capacity to overcome evil with good. As the wind withers, so do the pages of our dusty books.
